The KRG Information Technology Department announced the Kurdish Internet Domain Code Registration Service, indicating that this would be the first level of formal domain registration in Kurdistan and stated to the government in a statement that it complies with ICANN (responsible for domain names) laws and regulations.

The statement indicated that the head of the information technology department in the Kurdistan Regional Government said that the administration is aware and committed to its responsibilities in protecting the security and stability of the Internet when starting to use the first-level domain registration system for Kurdistan. The Kurdistan Regional Government’s Information Technology Joint Memorandum of Understanding with ICANN grants the right to use and manage the krd level domain by Internet users, in compliance with laws and regulations prepared by (ICANN) around the world.

He added that in July 2014, IANA frequency officially hosted a first-level domain name, so the presence of Kurdistan frequency has become a reality in the Internet world, and the statement indicated that from now on, addresses and websites ending in krd are not alien to Internet users around the world.

Domain (CO.KRD) for companies registered in Kurdistan.
Domain (GOV.KRD) for the ministries, departments, and institutions of the Kurdistan Regional Government.
Domain (EDU.KRD) for educational institutions.
Domain (.KRD) for individuals.

The statement pointed out that the first-level domain for Kurdistan is a stepping stone to achieving economic goals and raising the level of creativity, noting that this project is the basis for building a new homeland in the Internet world.
